Celebrity jewelry designer Alex Woo made an appearance at the store to meet and spend some quality time with those who love her American made jewelry. "I'm very excited to be here at Martin Binder," Woo said. "I'm here to meet some of my fans, and it has been really wonderful. It's really nice to be able to meet everyone in person, and I'm here hand-signing all of the pieces that anyone purchases today...It's wonderful to be here. The staff seems really close and everyone knows each other. It's a tight-knit family here. I love that." Woo is famous for her simple letter and symbol necklaces that are worn by women for their beauty, style, and representation of personalities and emotions. The pieces created by Woo are widely known and can be seen on celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Halle Berry, as well as lead cast members from television shows such as Gossip Girl and The Carrie Diaries. She has a large list of clients and was named to Crain's Business's "40 under 40" list of rising stars and successful people in New York. “All of the pieces that I design are very personal and they have a lot of meaning behind them. And I think that what is great about them is that from all of my collections, whether it's Little Faith or Little Luck, there is a piece that speaks to every woman. There is always a story to tell and hopefully someone will identify with something from my collections,” Woo said. "Some women chose a piece because it's really pretty or because it has meaning to them...Pairing their interpretations with my jewelry is really special.” This is Woo's first time in Indiana, and she was welcomed in style as she was escorted to Martin Binder Jeweler via limousine, courtesy of Epiclimo, Inc. At the store she sat behind the counter and graciously spoke to each costumer that came to her. The staff members of Martin Binder were close by assisting other customers with their purchases and helping Woo whenever she needed it. Warm drinks and sweets were available for customers so that they could ease the chill from the cold Indiana weather. Robert Flude, 3rd generation owner of Martin Binder Jeweler was among the crowd at the store. He happily assisted customers and saw to it that the staff and Ms. Woo had everything that they needed to make the day go as smoothly and as seamlessly as possible. “Ms. Woo came to us all the way from New York. And that took a lot of planning from our marketing staff. We like to have events that highlight the newer artists that are out there,” he said. “Having a New York designer in Valparaiso is pretty rare.
